Vaccine Description

The DTP vaccine is an active immunisation against infection caused by diphtheria, tetanus and poliomyelitis as a booster following primary vaccination in susceptible people 6 years of age and above travelling to countries or areas where diphtheria, tetanus and/or poliomyelitis are endemic, or epidemic. All travellers to epidemic or endemic areas should ensure that they are fully immunised according to the UK schedule. The vaccine is administered as an intramuscular injection in the deltoid region. If you are travelling to an area where there is a risk of diphtheria, tetanus or polio it is recommended you have your booster 2 weeks before travel. It is recommended you have a booster every 10 years. If it is your first immunisation against DTP more than one dose may be required. When you arrive at the pharmacy you will be required to fill in a consent form with a short questionnaire to see if you fit the inclusion criteria for the vaccine. The form can be downloaded to view and fill in before your appointment.
